My name is Greg Matlin. My wife, Angela, and I are the proud parents of three Tesoro Graduates; Justin (2015), Jared (2017), and Amanda (2019). We recently lost Justin to suicide. Justin had a huge heart, an infectious smile and was the light of our family and a beacon of hope for so many. Justin was a tremendous and loving person. Justin loved many things including family, friends, teachers, coaches, teammates, and coworkers to name a few. He also loved collecting socks as well as anything Lululemon.

His happiest and most loved place on earth though, was on the Tesoro Football field. He was a four-year member of the Tesoro Football team earning Varsity letters his junior and senior year as the starting kicker and punter. While he attended and until he graduated from Chapman University in 2019, Coach Poston had Justin or as coach called him, Matty, on his staff as an Assistant Football coach. He loved mentoring the players on and off the field and absolutely thrived as a coach and as a side job for his mom he kept an eye out for his brother (Jared) and sister (Amanda).

The Tesoro Football Team is more than just about football. It is truly about their mission impact; character, academics, and athletic development. After Justin’s passing one of our first calls was to Coach Poston and he said let me know if there is anything I can do. As the minutes, hours and days passed the outpouring of love for Justin and the support for my family the message was clear, “If there is anything we can do, please let us know.”

My family will be contributing to Justin’s Tesoro Football family. In lieu of flowers, gifts, etc. it would be most meaningful if you could donate in Justin’s honor to his Tesoro Football family where they truly are building the next generation of people of character.

We love you and miss you tremendously Justin.
